Where the Wild Things Are

This is what it looks like to be a Dad and a Sales Manager.
Two under three at home while heading up a young team of 4 sales folk in a growing software organisation.

Sure, there are similarities. You know the parenting of small humans is not wildly different to keeping a sales team thriving. I'm sure it requires the same skills. They’re only ever one packet of Ovalteenies away from overtired hyperactivity. Or one competition away from it all ending in tears.  Not to mention I’m proud of them all, seeing them all learn and grow.

Where am I going with this?

I have this work trip coming up which means leaving 3 of my team unsupervised as I’m bringing one of them, Declan Kenny, with me. But most importantly, all the day-to-day life challenges with two small children will land solely on my wife. And that’s tough to leave behind.  I think secretly my wife will miss me too, even if she makes out it’s fine

The daycare drop-offs, mealtimes, the nighttime “go to sleep, close your eyes” roundabout of fun. Parenting is often hard in the moment, but I will miss those moments too.

Not going to lie, the being away from my family is the hardest bit for me. The guilt as a parent never stops, does it? BUT, on the other hand, I’m curious. This trip to the Workplace Health & Safety Show in Melbourne is going to change Locatrix. It has the potential to unlock a whole level of new industries to us. I wonder who we will meet and what I will learn from this experience.

‍

Growing a business is so aligned to parenting. The joy of conquering a challenge, only to replace it with another. No resting on your laurels.

Going back to the WHS conference though, this is the first time we, as a company have exhibited there. I know I won’t see the usual fire safety faces at this one. You’ve all become like old friends. But this is my chance to branch out and take Locatrix to a new place to meet new acquaintances, who I hope will become part of Locatrix too.

Daunting? Yep. Definitely. Without question.

Worth it though? 100% you bet it is.

I see our software PlanStudio & PlanSafe being so bloody useful to the folk who’ll be attending. I'm looking to see that glimmer of a reaction when people see our software in action for the first time. Not only is our home-grown software amazing, but showing how it can integrate with existing systems and support so many businesses is going to be awesome. We might be the missing piece of the puzzle for many organisations.

They just don't know it yet.

‍

We often refer to seeing PlanStudio in action as that moment that caveman discovered fire for the first time. A literal prehistoric light bulb moment.

I hope you get to experience it too.

If you are going to the show and we haven’t met yet, I’d love it if you’d drop by our stand (A33) to say “hey!”. Plus, we have some Locatrix loot to share with you and a pretty awesome iPad giveaway.

You’ll be doing me more of a favour than you realise when you drop by stand A33. You’ll be helping me to keep my mind off missing the small humans running amok at home.

And the even bigger ones in the office.
